Nita Little ニタ・リトル

Nita Little
Nita Little investigates embodied attention within improvisational and technical movement practices with a concentration on the technicities of both creative and relational practices. Through ensemble dance improvisation practice and performance she works toward a future that recognizes our environmental entanglements and values many forms of embodied communication, recognizing that the quality of an embodied state determines the potentials of its relational capacities. A dance researcher, theorist/artist, and one of the founding developers of Contact Improvisation (CI) she teaches around the globe, guiding one of its forward leading edges. She began over 50 years ago, working alongside her teacher at Bennington College, Steve Paxton, on materials that became CI (1972) and was a participant in the earliest performances and teaching that helped it to become significant within dance and dance communities. Within CI’s first year she developed a curiosity about the relationship of the (physical) mind and relational events. Now, she investigates ecological actions of embodied attention, particularly with respect to somatic communication between humans and beyond.
Nita received her PhD in Performance Studies with a focus on the articulation of presence and creative actions of attention (2014). Her life work is inclusive of mindbody training, performing, choreographing, researching and writing about the ethics, politics and entanglement of somatic relations. With a world-wide audience for her teaching, dance making, and lecturing, she is an activist for relational intelligence and an advocate for dancers as embodied researchers, marking and exposing a field of human relational potentials. She is executive director of the Institute for the Study of Somatic Communication (ISSC, 2016), a network of laboratories populated by dancer researchers and associate research experts from diverse fields. お茶の水女子大学大学院人文科学研究科舞踊教育学専攻修了。1989年よりニューヨークヘダンス留学。2000年コンタクト・インプロビゼーショングループCIcoを東京にて発足。日本のコンタクト・インプロビゼーション(Cl) の普及と発展に努める。Michael Schumacher, Ray Chung, Nina Martin, Nancy Stark Smith, Noam Carmeliらから学び影響を受ける。欧州CI会議、イスラエルCIフェスティバルなどに招聘され、東洋的なCIの解釈と提案は世界各地で好評を得ている。2012年鹿児島県に移住。伊佐市にて国際ダンスフェスティバルi-Dance Japanを隔年開催。国際的ネットワークを広げつつ、地域での芸術活動にも軸足をおく。コロナの時代にはオフライン・リモート・ダンスを打ち出し、そのお陰で渦中も世界中の人と繋がって踊る。近年は伊佐市、鹿児島市での「身体哲学ダンスワークショップ」を絶賛開講。乳幼児のための芸術体験「くるんころん」のアーティスト募集中。2024年から無農薬米作りに挑戦。
Chico Katsube
Dance artist and leader of the Contact Improvisation Group CIco. Born in Osaka City, currently living in Isa City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Graduated from the Graduate School of Humanities, Ochanomizu University, majoring in dance education. Studied dance in New York from 1989. Established the Contact Improvisation Group CIco in Tokyo in 2000. Works to popularize and develop Japanese Contact Improvisation (Cl). Learned and influenced by Michael Schumacher, Ray Chung, Nina Martin, Nancy Stark Smith, Noam Carmeli and others. Invited to the European CI Conference and the Israeli CI Festival, her interpretations and proposals of oriental CI have been well received around the world.
Moved to Kagoshima Prefecture in 2012. Organizes the international dance festival i-Dance Japan every two years in Isa City. While expanding international networks, also focuses on local artistic activities. In the age of COVID-19, launched “offline remote dance”, thanks to which people from all over the world can connect and dance even in the midst of the pandemic. In recent years, "Body Philosophy Dance Workshop" has been highly praised in Isa City and Kagoshima City. Currently recruiting artists for "Kurunkoron", an art experience for infants and toddlers.

鹿島聖子 Shoko Kashima

お茶の水女子大学大学院人文科学研究科修士課程修了。2002年に文化庁在外研修でニューヨークに滞在、2005年、コンタクト・インプロビゼーション・グループCIcoに参加、イスラエルやIbisaはじめ、欧米、北欧、アフリカ、アジアなど国内外各地でCIの講師やパフォーマンスを行う。NHKドラマ「はつ恋」（2012）のエンディングに出演。2012年に鹿児島に移住、2013年よりi-Dance Japan国際コンタクト・インプロビゼーション・フェスティバルを主催。鹿児島市や伊佐市でコンタクト・インプロビゼーションをベースにした「身体哲学ダンス」開講中。2024年、香港、上海のフェスティバルに招聘され、勝部ちことともに「間」のコンタクト・インプロビゼーションの集中講座を受け持った。農の暮らしで身体感覚を研ぎ澄ましつつ、2024年より合気道を習い始め、その哲学に頭がぐるぐる。

Graduated from the Master's program at the Graduate School of Humanities, Ochanomizu University. In 2002, she stayed in New York on an overseas training program organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and in 2005, she joined Contact Improvisation Group CIco, and has been teaching and performing CI in Israel, Ibisa, Europe, the US, Northern Europe, Africa, Asia, and other places in Japan and overseas. She appeared in the ending credits of the NHK drama "First Love" (2012). In 2012, she moved from Tokyo to Kagoshima, and in 2013, she organized the i-Dance Japan International Contact Improvisation Festival. She has been offering "Body Philosophy Dance" based on contact improvisation in Kagoshima City and Isa City. In 2024, she was invited to festivals in Hong Kong and Shanghai, where she taught an intensive course on contact improvisation "Ma" with Katsube Chiko. While sharpening his physical senses through farm life, he began studying Aikido in 2024, and its philosophy has left his head spinning.
